Genomics CPD and education resources

Genomic medicine is a strategic priority for NHS Scotland. To support implementation, a fixed-term secondment was commissioned to:

• map existing genomics education resources for:
• the specialist genomics workforce
• wider NHS Scotland staff
• the public
• identify gaps in provision across disciplines, topics and levels
• present the findings in an accessible way for educators, managers and individual staff members

 

The Genomics CPD dashboard

The Genomics CPD dashboard is an interactive Power BI report that summarises available genomics education and training resources in one place.

The dashboard allows NHS Scotland staff to:

• view genomics-related resources by audience (e.g. specialist genomics staff, other healthcare professionals)
• explore resources by topic area (for example rare disease, cancer, and pharmacogenomics)
• provide ratings and feedback on individual resources, supporting ongoing quality assurance and helping identify priorities for future updates
• highlight areas where few or no resources are currently available, to inform local and national planning

The dashboard is intended as a starting point for:

• individuals, to plan their own CPD
• educators and training leads, to signpost staff to appropriate materials and identify gaps
• service managers and networks, to review current training provision and support local CPD planning and governance.

Access arrangements vary across providers, so work is under way to improve consistency and widen availability. Many of the resources identified through this secondment are hosted on external platforms (for example professional bodies, academic partners and UK-wide initiatives).

We are currently:

• reviewing licensing and access requirements
• working with partners to make as many links as possible available beyond NHS Scotland networks
• developing a version of the curated resource list that can be hosted on open-access web pages.

 

Scope and limitations

This mapping exercise and dashboard were produced as part of a time-limited secondment. As a result:

• the resource list is not exhaustive and will need periodic review
• inclusion of a resource does not imply NES endorsement of specific products or providers
• the focus is on education resources that support practice in, or related to, NHS Scotland

We encourage users to supplement this information with local knowledge and specialty-specific guidance.

We welcome feedback to help keep this information current. We would appreciate comments on:

• resources that should be added, updated or removed
• gaps you have identified for particular staff groups or topics
• how you are using the dashboard locally

Access to the dashboard

At present, the interactive Genomics CPD Power BI dashboard below is only available to NHS Scotland staff with Microsoft 365 access. We are working to provide access to groups outwith NHS Scotland.
