Your Training Responsibilities

Effective supervision has multiple benefits for both the supervisee and supervisor, as well as the wider service and service users. Irrespective of which scientist training pathway, there are certain responsibilities and attributes expected of a supervisor for supporting your trainee towards completion of their programme such as;

  • Give broad direction to the trainee, including agreeing a training plan to map out the workplace learning to be undertaken over the duration of training
  • Meet and monitor trainees regularly and ensure there is communication, and collaboration
  • Complete the NES HCS Train-the-Trainer and Trainees-in-Difficulty programmes (available on our Leadership and Management CPD area on Turas Learn)
  • Plan requisite assessments and monitoring of progression
  • Set up a learning agreement with clear expectations of the trainee and trainer responsibilities
  • Give constructive feedback and define actions or learning needs to agree on as milestones for progress
  • Correspond with NES when we request information relating to our quality assurance role
  • Engage with NES to record your education, training, skills and experience as a trainer using our Supervisor Recognition MS Form
  • Participate with Training Centre Recognition
